Dodgy Delilah's Debut For The NHS

Updated: Jan 30

You may have seen there have been many campaigns to raise money for the NHS staff and volunteers who are working on the frontline of this virus. The incredible Tom Moore, who is a 99 year old war veteran has raised over £18 million and it keeps going up, he's walking 100 laps of his garden in aid of the NHS. Tom Moore is just one of many campaigns which have been created to raise money during this time. I couldn't be any more grateful to be part of a nation that has stuck together so well during such an worrying and unprecedented time.

Amongst all of the uncertainty and negativity that COVID-19 has brought to 2020, myself and my mum jokingly spoke about dressing my dad up in drag to bring a bit of laughter and fun to our Saturday night a couple of weeks ago. A few days went by and my dad came back to me to ask me about putting a fundraising aspect to it. So that same night we set up a Just Giving Page and started spreading the word, 'Dodgy Delilah' was about to make her debut the following Saturday (11th) and people were more than welcome to donate.

We named it a Social Distance Strut, where DD would perform her one form of exercise a day as a catwalk down our street whilst following all of the government guidelines. We ordered her a stunning sparkly dress, a bob wig and some 'Bombshell' heels. A playlist was made for her catwalk moment and it's fair to say the first day she put the heels on, we weren't expecting much...my dad wasn't made for the heels. Fast forward to the next day and it was show time. I spent about an hour doing her makeup, shoved some socks down her dress to make her DD's and off she went. Needless to say, she nailed it! The neighbours came out to support (whilst standing on their own drives, a safe distance away from each other), it was an awesome thing to see and it was fair to say Dodgy Delilah surprised us all on those heels. She even managed a slut drop and twerking, I think my dad's alter ego must've came out!

I was so proud of my dad for killing it and staying standing on those heels! But most importantly for doing something which most people would shy away from (embarrassment) and put himself out there to raise money for such a great cause. So far we've raised £340 and we're hoping to raise more. Our Just Giving Page is still open if you want to donate, we're looking to hit at least £400 maybe even surpass it, which would be amazing: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/socialdistancestrut

A very big thank you to everyone who has already supported the cause, shared or donated! It is very much appreciated. In a time where people feel helpless, everyone is coming together to support a great system we're lucky enough to have in the UK! If you're part of the NHS or are an essential worker during this time, Thank You for the incredible work you're doing. Thank you for the sacrifices you're having to make.

You don't have to just donate to support the NHS. Simply, stay home and stay safe! Follow government guidelines and check up on family/friends!

Love Ab & Chlo x
