Summer Skincare Essentials

Updated: Jan 30

Summer can be difficult for the best of us, especially when it comes to skincare and keeping your skin hydrated. How you treat your skin when you're young can have an impact on how it looks as you age, drinking lots of water certainly goes along with skincare, but finding the right products can be difficult. I've always had this problem, as I had suffered with sensitive skin and usually broke out when I used moisturisers etc. So, I went years without using anything on my skin until about a couple of months ago when I discovered these five products.

The Body Shop - Drops of Light Resurfacing Peel (£18)

This product is a godsend for those days where you feel like you've got a build up on your skin that you want to get rid of. I typically use this on a night after I take my makeup off, simply put a little on my hands and gently rub it around my face. Because it is a liquid peel, I then get a wet flannel and wipe off the dead skin, then I splash some cold water on my face which gets rid of any excess peel. I've got to say this makes your skin feel brand new. I've used charcoal masks etc. but no other product as ever had the same effect. Typically, I use it every 2 or 3 weeks as it is a liquid peel and it can be quite harsh if used often.

Soap & Glory - Dr Spot (£8)

This is my personal favourite of all of the products, if you suffer with problematic skin then this product you NEED!! I introduced Chlo to this and since then she cannot stop going on about how great it is. If you have a mountain of a spot on your skin you're dying to get rid of, dab a little bit of this product on it, sleep with it on and then in the morning it is practically gone. Dr Spot essentially dries up the area of skin you've applied it to. I only really put it on before bed as then I know that I'm less likely to touch my face so the product is more likely to actually stay on my face. For such an effective product that has lasted me for over a year now, it is a steal! Definitely worth it, especially if you need one on a budget.

Pixi Exfoliating Toner - Glow Tonic (£10)

This toner I don't use everyday, mostly because I forget but sometimes I don't want my skin to get too greasy. However, I certainly know when I haven't used this product, my skin isn't quite as glowy as I would like. It is a lovely soothing product. I just apply it to a cotton pad and dab it on my face. It works a treat at getting off the makeup that a cleanser may not. I was apprehensive about getting this product, but I am so glad I did in the end. It comes in two different sizes, 100ml or 250ml. The 100ml is perfect for travel and if you're going on holiday!

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream (£6.49 on current sale)

As I said before, I have always struggled to find a moisturiser that doesn't break me out but I started struggling with my skin drying out so I thought I'd attempt a moisturiser and had heard Neutrogena had a good reputation. I have to say, this is a lovely moisturiser, I wouldn't put too much on because I don't want to cause my skin to break out but so far so good! I have been using it for a few months and I'm yet to really break out. I think sometimes I can look a bit oily, but I think that is because of the combination of the moisturiser and toner. With all that said, it is worth the purchase and I do LOVE how hydrated it makes my skin feel.

Maybelline - Face Studio Primer (£8.98)

I know this isn't really a skincare product, more of a makeup product but I had to put this in as it is a dream! Absolutely love how illuminating this product is, especially underneath your foundation. It doesn't give that greasy look but it definitely gives off the healthy, glowy look for me. Personally one of my favourite primers I've tried and lasts a while I must say. I use it every day and I've had it for quite a few months now and there's still no sign of empty packaging. I feel like I'm saying the same thing about all of the products, but honestly I think all five products are definitely worth getting.

Hope you enjoyed the short blog! There's not much else I can say about the products, so give them a try to find out how good they actually are.

See you soon

Love Ab x
